A little care, on a steady rhythm.
This is a starting routine, not a substitute for the instructions supplied with your fountain and pump. Material, finish, water chemistry, and climate can change what the right care looks like.
Three moments to remember
Keep the water where it belongs
Check the basin as water evaporates, especially in hot or windy weather. Keep the pump submerged to the level its maker requires, and clear leaves before they travel into the intake.
Give the pump a reset
Turn power off before handling the pump. Remove debris and clean it according to its instructions. Refresh the water as needed rather than letting buildup become the new normal.
Prepare for a freeze
Before freezing weather, switch the fountain off, drain standing water, and protect or store the pump and components as the maker directs. Water left inside can expand and damage the piece.
Start gently.
Leaves, algae, and mineral residue are easier to address early. Begin with the maker’s cleaning instructions and a soft cloth or brush. Harsh cleaners and pressure washing can damage some finishes; do not assume a treatment is safe for every fountain.
If water flow weakens, check the water level and pump intake first. If that does not help, refer to the pump manual or ask us to identify the correct replacement part.
Don’t let water freeze inside.
A fountain can still collect rain or snow after it is switched off. Follow the maker’s winterizing steps for draining, pump storage, and covering. If your location freezes, do this before temperatures drop—not after ice appears.
